If you want to find God, hang out in the space between your thoughts.

~Alan Cohen

Have you wanted to learn to meditate, but questioned where to start? Have you heard about some of the benefits of meditation and have become curious about integrating the practice, but need some guidance to do so?

I offer my experience with meditation to be of service in offering to teach you skills in meditation to meet your needs. I offer instruction in classical meditation practice as well as in Sanskrit mantra japa.

Meditation has now become a practice that is quite popular in the Western world among people from all walks of life. The practice meditation leads one’s mind to be stilled and free from stress, supporting increased awareness and improvement of physical and psychological health. It may be thought of as quiet prayer without petition, bringing the body and soul into quiet rest. Through the process, one experiences the fruit of deepening and expanding their sense of presence. Regular practice will promote a sense of calm and control; supporting a general sense of wellbeing, increased energy, concentration and self confidence.

As an alternative or as an addition to the quite seated meditation practice referenced above, Mantra recitation utilizes the power of sound; the primary instrument of creation. The letters in the language of Sanskrit, like other ancient languages carry a vibration that when recited reverberate in one’s own body and environment; taking on the quality of that vibration. While the system begets from the Vedas, it is not necessary for one to change their faith or religion in order to practice this form of meditation. This type of meditation can assist you in dealing with the material concerns and the necessities of life. Whether it be relationship or career issues, physical or psychological health problems, financial struggles or a desire to help another, this type of japa practice can help.

I have practiced and taught a variety of meditation practices for over 15 years. While I have helped many to integrate techniques such as progressive relaxation and other forms of guided meditation, I have also been trained in many methods of quiet meditation including some more general universal forms to specifically centering prayer, taize, vispassana, kriya yoga, Sanskrit mantra japa, agni hotra and others. I have traveled, attended extended retreats and practiced in countries such as India and Brazil. I am certified as a teacher in Transformational Meditation and am completing my certification as a Teacher of Mantra Instructor with Thomas and Margalo Ashley-Farrand.

I offer customized individual instruction for persons seeking to learn and integrate the practice of meditation into their lives. Sessions are designed to your specific needs. Please contact me with your particular request. Please note that I can teach Sanskrit mantra japa via the telephone or Skype sessions if you do not live in my physical area.

Group instruction is in the planning stages. If you are interested in participating in a group training or practice session, contact me. I’d love to hear from you.
